Mission Statement

A.D.A.P.T. is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) in the Jewish community.

Our mission is to help parents and teachers work together to support children with AD/HD. By raising public awareness and imparting education in both the home and school environments, we can assist the people involved in the life of a child to communicate effectively and provide consistent treatments.

Our outreach programs focus on providing information, awareness and support to individuals, parents and teachers about AD/HD. Research has shown that between seven to ten percent of children have AD/HD while less than half are diagnosed. Recognizing that many schools have classes of at least twenty students, the odds are that a teacher will have at least one child with AD/HD in their class every year or so. School can be extremely difficult for a student with AD/HD and we hope to assist in early detection so parents can determine the appropriate methods to manage and treat their children as they grow to become successful adults. From support groups and parent training, from workshops to conferences, we help individuals affected by AD/HD to understand and manage the disorder.

A.D.A.P.T. coordinates the Brooklyn-Area chapter of CHADD: a national organization providing information, education and advocacy for AD/HD. Our operations are based in Brooklyn, NY and we can assist surrounding communities to develop a local system of support.
