Parenting and educating children with AD/HD can often be a challenging experience.
Many times it is difficult to understand the behavioral and educational needs of
a child affected by AD/HD, a child who needs to be taught a bit differently in order
to succeed. It is our hope that offering this forum in the beginning of the school
year will have a direct positive impact on the educational needs of our children.
With dedicated tracks for parents and educators, participants will get the chance
to hear leading researchers, educators and clinicians discuss the diagnosis, treatment
and effects of AD/HD while providing practical tips and techniques for successful
management.
Parents will hear sessions on topics of treatment options for AD/HD including medication,
complementary interventions and behavior modification, and will learn how to develop
strategies to help their children succeed in school. Additionally, the forum provides
an opportunity for parents to meet and talk with other parents struggling with similar
issues.
Educators will learn how to recognize the signs and effects of AD/HD, how to effectively
communicate with parents concerning the students’ progress, how the executive functioning
impairments of AD/HD affect academic progress, and practical classroom behavioral
techniques for students with AD/HD and other behavioral disorders.
Both parents and teachers will benefit from an informative keynote session addressing
the roles of school and home in academic and social achievements, and the role of
the community in supporting those affected by AD/HD.
The forum is open to those who have an interest in learning more about AD/HD. Pre-registration
is recommended as space is limited.
